Allow hyperlink in notes to link to thought in plex; clicking it should bring up the thought in plex
We can now hyperlink to www or other docs, but why not into existing thoughts in the brain? This would be a very useful feature. I frequently write notes and wish I could hyperlink directly into the plex.
This will be included in 6.0.2.3.

hey since this feature is complete. I started a new idea:

yes a belated thanks! feedback: please make it work like web URLs - highlight text and choose a thought (you could bring up the search box)
there are times when the text does not match the target thought link or sometimes I'm phrasing it in a way that does not match the thought text.
it would also save time if you don't remember exact spelling (which is required) because most of the time whatever you type is still a valid jump even if it's not character for character.

Good news! Thanks! And tentatively a good job btw, until I've tested it after I can afford the upgrade, even tough it's a modest amount for the goods.

If I remember correctly - this feature was available in (native Windows) Version 3 of PB and was very helpful. This feature was lost by migration to (Java) Version 4 of PB.
There it worked over the context menu (right mouse button) - activate thought - if the selected text was found as thought name.
Would be very good to get this feature back in the new version 6. I think it could work similarly as described above by using the search index of the brain. Selected Text - right mouse button - context menu - activate thought (with sub-menu like thought-types) displaying all the thoughts found by the selected text in the note. -

yes yes yes - this is synonymous to creating wiki links using wikitext!

Yes please, just searched the help file for this function and was surprised to find it not there. I hope this one might be incorporated into the free version :-) Thanks

Harlan pointed out over here http://forums.thebrain.com/post?id=1949644&highlight=hyperlink that this was the plan all along, but I guess there were complications to the design, implementation & priorities.

I've been silently wishing for it for quite a while to be able to link to a specific thought from within the notes I'm making, just like Wiki or OneNote. Now, I might be stating the obvious, but just to be explicit, the hyperlink to the thought must be GUID based so that I can change the thought name without breaking the hyperlinks pointing to it.
I've been missing this capability ever since I moved from OneNote to primarily using PB, and only using OneNote when it makes more sense, which has enough handy use-cases for me. But PB doesn't yet support such Notes hyperlinks, which is a big bummer! And it should be compatible with Harlan's URI idea to be able to link to thoughts in other people's brain's (any external thought outside of the active brain).
In case hyperlinks pointing to inner thoughts, the same auto completion suggestion-box which appears in case of the creation of new thoughts, should appear when creating a new hyperlink to find and point to the desired thought. And on top of that capability I think it's very handy to use the combination of Ctrl+shift+left mouse click dragging to drag a thought into the desired location in the Notes. Right now using that combination doesn't result in the addition of the thought to the selection-panel, but the hovering is still active, so the intended Notes won't be visible to drag to. So when using such a key combination the hovering should be deactivated temporarily as long as the combination is held.
Such hyperlinks makes it easier to point to a thought when it only makes sense within a specific (more complicated) context, which is in the notes. This way I can keep the visual links that link the most relevant thoughts which I want to be reminded of every time. But, I want to be able to link interesting connections to a certain context/mind state (using hyperlinks) without causing information overload because of too many links or having to scroll to find the thought I've mentioned in my notes, and being able to put a connection in a textual context longer than only the visible part of the thought field!

Adding this possibility only seems logical:
Imagine I made a website that can't link to my own pages. Would you like it?
That's what this is folks...
Today in TheBrain we can travel to the entire world by URL and links to other data on just about any network, but we are unable to access our own brain. We currently were testing TheBrain in our company to assist us in the development of new projects.
Such new projects often tend to develop a new 'language' or at least new concepts or names. The notes often carry a certain term that is new to people first entering these projects. It would only make sense that if they come across a term that is new to them that they can either click it, or view a small summary when they hoover over the term.Technically it's a small addition, compared to most suggestion I see here. But in usability it would add a lot to this software. This seems a win-win for everyone.

If I wouldn't find this suggestion I would add it myself - this is a feature I really miss. It even made me sometimes to look for some kind of wiki instead of using personal brain... but I of course returned to Brain.
This feature would greatly help to keep your brain clean - you would save jumps between thoughts that aren't that close to each other yet you could get from one to the other directly.
Also it could allow to do a sort of one-way links trough notes.
Also one when there is a thought which is somehow connected only partly to another thought, you could make the link in a text in the note where the context is clear.
Ow, and also when you actually use the brain to create web pages it would be very handy. -

I couldn't agree more!
Dream come true:
1. URL to thought that can be used from anywhere (other apps, notes, throw one on the desktop). The reason it must be from anywhere is that many of us can't deal with the limits of the built in notes, so we use other apps, and we'll need to be able to link back from them
2. Auto-link from within thoughts (as an option, so people who don't approve of that kind of thing can disable it), or like the current "create new thought" functionality, where a drop-down appears with all the matches, but doesn't actually link unless you select one. Then you'd really have something!
Imagine this...
You read an article about pizza in the NYTimes Mazagine. You think:
"Ok, I'm writing a note about that article about Naked Pizza, and in it they mention 'probiotics.' I'm thinking, 'what the heck is a probiotic?' but by the time I finish typing the word, it links back to another thought in my brain. I remember, 'oh, that's right, I read an article last month about that. Let me go check my notes real quick and refresh.'" -

I would like to have this feature. I asked for the same feature.
Link from Note text to a Thought
It would be nice to be able to add a link inside the Note text, to link to an other Thought.
It would be similar to an HTML link, just it would open/jump to an other Thought. So, in the Note text, I could write:
"Today we came up three ideas, those are:
- Idea one : goto Thought One
- Idea two : goto Thought Two
- Idea three:goto Thought Three "It would work similarly to the report pane, where clicking on a text it makes to jump to that Thought, the report pane stays. In the case of the Note window, the text on the Note window would be replaced with the new Thought text, which could be annoying is some cases.
So, for this reason a new feature would added, that is to add the Note text to the "Properties & Attachments" window. That window stays as the Brain wonders from Thought to Thought and currently used for coping attachment files from one Thought to the other.
This same window could be used by showing the Thought Note text, to navigate the Brain from one Thought to the other by clicking those underline links I talked about before, see it again below:
"- Idea one : goto Thought One
- Idea two : goto Thought Two
- Idea three:goto Thought Three "With this new feature, one could write a personalized reports/documents about content of the Brain currently being used, and be able to navigate to the detailed information by clicking those texts. It's like a World Wide Web inside a Brain.
So, I am proposing two new features here:
1.) Be able to click on a Thought link on the Note text, and the Brain jumps to that Thought, the same way as you click it on the Flex window or from a report pane.2.) Add the Note text to the "Properties & Attachment" window, to let navigate the Brain while the original Note text remain visible.

This is one of the best features, and I am really looking forward to it!
