Please bring back user defined sort order in plex
I work with medical data that has its own structure which does not lend itself to the current sorting features. If the other features of the current release were not so compelling in other areas I'd be back to good old PB3 in a flash for that feature alone. I'm begging here! ;-}

In PB3 you could create your thoughts and then drag and drop them into the order you desired in what is now called normal view. The default ordering was called "user defined". Your data was displayed in a way that followed its own logic or your preference without having to create prefixes, another adaptation, or meta tag (all an additional step) to display your data they way you wanted.

I'm still unclear as to what this UserVoice idea is about. Is it about manually ordering thoughts? It might help voting if somebody could post a brief description of what was lost from PB3. I first used version 4.
I am most interested in "by thought" (but still automated) ordering for the active thought, additional criteria sort and inclusion of the Super Types for ordering by Type.

However this is implemented, drag and drop ordering is essential to its usefulness. The idea is to make the ordered thought process as transparent as possible to the user so he can quickly and effectively plan out or list what he needs in a ordered manner. This would be very effective in the outline view and take that view to another level of usefulness.

Harlan, I do want to point out that you are "so close" with all the new enhancements, but not being able to create the data relationship views one wants with such an advanced product is very disappointing. Especially when every other mind mapping type product I've tried has the capability. I won't bug you again about this but it is glaring from my screen every day, Happy Holidays!

Harlan, if we had structured matadata, one could 'simply' add 'childOrder' attribute (as an integer) and then arrange the thoughts by this attribute.
I'm really hoping that custom attributes can make it into 5.0. -

A whole lotta support for this one for me. User control is good. And more hotkeys/shortcuts too.

Harlan, I second Middleway's comment. As a ex-programmer, I had guessed the problem your comment confirms. User control over thought ordering is a means of using an effective "brainstorming" tool as "work oriented" tool. Ordered planning is critically important for most real world tasks. This is particularly true in a corporate environment.

Harlan,
Thanks for the comment on why the feature was left out of the current release. I hope you will undertake this as I think all of us would like our data relationships to display "just so". Keep up the great work! -
FYI, the reason this is not already in PersonalBrain 4 but was in version 3 is because of architectural changes to the way data is stored. This is a non-trivial task, but will certainly be put into the development plans if the support for it remains strong.

Ordering by link type, link label or link tag (if such a thing will ever be implemented) would be an elegant solution IMHO
Badly needed! -

Alternatively, combined with
http://thebrain.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/70182 you could simply choose arrange based on specific attribute, e.g. if attribute 1 is color, arrange by color, if attribute 2 is 'user order for parent A' it would be arranged accordingly, or you could have attribute called 'priority' and arrange by priority. -

very needed... could be implemented by adding another attribute to the list of childen. E.g. children order. From UI perspective you could click on a parent node and 'define order of children', you'd then click on the children in order you'd like them to appear.

I never used PB3 so I don't know what the author is referring to!
I endorse not only a wider selection of thought sorting, but also "by thought' sorting, so that some thoughts could sort by thought type / name and others by date. I think this need will arise spontaneously once more types of sort key are available

We should all remove the votes from here and move them to the "user ordered thoughts for report outlining".
Otherwise, our votes are being diluted into two different places

Yes, same requests as "user ordered thoughts for report outlining" and a need many of us have. Please consider implementing this as soon as possible.

@stan, very good idea with the hotkeys. Would make ordering items very easy.

This functionality is present in Freemind which allows hotkeys to move node up, down, promote, and demote. Thereby the full functionality of outlining is present. This functionality, if placed in the current PersonalBrain outline mode, would make rearranging a brain a snap since the nodes, in the outline view, are only single parent nodes.

really the exact same request as "user ordered thoughts for report outlining"
