Use icons for tags
How about the ability to use an icon in place of text for tags? This saves screen real-estate and will solve issues around multiple tags overwriting text for other thoughts. Ideally, configurable so you can switch between icon/text to aid clarity when presenting.
TheBrain 9 allows tags to be displayed as icons, text, or a combination so that icons show and then the text also shows on mouse hover.

Certain of these icons should also allow to be changed with a click: boxes can be ticked in a click, priority icons lowered or promoted with a click on the icon.

Yes, add this now! I don't know how people are able to use the software after a while. Everything gets so cluttered in the tag section!

This would really enhance the brain.

I definitely could use this. It would help unclutter the view, and would make it easier to recognize tags. You would still want a text associated with the icon though for searching. It could be set for text and if an icon is associated with the text, simply display the icon instead of the text. That way searches are still usable. Goodness! I can't believe this isn't already implemented... tagging is such an essential part of using a program like this!

I agree, you begin to run out of colours with tag fonts. An icon library would be a great addition (users could upload to a communal library of same).

I agree. I cannot believe this is not more highly requested. Such a small change could aid dramatically the usage of tags.

yes yes yes! I was just about to write exactly this! althought simple colored dots would also do the trick (for some configuration, it might be a good idea not to overload the brain with too many icons ...)
also, since tags can be used to encode different kinds of information, it would be great to have a checkable list to select exactly those tags that we want to be displayed (instead of just the alternative between displaying all or none)
