Many improvements related to links are included in the TheBrain 7.

Hi,
I like the new advanced links feature but it's time consuming. Any improvement to reduce the steps to set link properties would be advisable. For example: All the links sharing the same type should share the same properties by default.
A way to create and apply templates. Applying the link type all the customizations should be applied in one go.
All the links of the same type should share the same properties (thickness, color, etc). Link types editor Window.
When setting up the direction, always use descending by default. -

This would be extremely useful for visualizing systems with inputs and outputs. This simple addition would open up so many more possibilities for PlB. I'm checking out a mind mapping software called Compendium that can make arrows.

There is not really a need for 2 labels, as simply adding a direction would then give the label a meaning. "employed at" would always have a direction from the person to the company, thus negating the need for a second label as the direction itself indicates its meaning.

Please, implement this long-long waited feature AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

I think adding a notes capability to a link(relationship between 2 thoughts) is essential and not a bell or whistle.

This would be extremely useful as a programmer for modeling software. This would allow me to model the direction a method call is being made, delegate info, etc.

I am curious as to what obstacles might prevent this suggestion from being migrated to 'planned' status Do the main issues relate to architectural constraint, priority * resources, or perhaps something else? Any insights from those who decide these issues and the processes involved therein would be of much interest to forum readers

i totally agree to the above comments and would like to see links have the same features as thoughts. In addition, I would also like to see grouping of links according to link type.

I would really like to see this with jump links. An example would be two artists as thoughts where one was influenced by the other. You would want to indicate A was influenced by B and not vice versa.

While writing my previous post I completely forgot about the notion of Associative Entities from the Data Architecture which in TheBrain's meta-model might more aptly be called Associative Thought or Link Thoughts. Fore more information, please se my reply to the earlier Advanced Link Types post at

Depending on the knowledge domain one is working in, Links can be as important as Thoughts and their capabilities need to be enhanced to reflect that.
Many of the posts here reflect that. My suggestion is to make Links be able to have almost all of the capabilities/attributes/attachments that Thoughts have. An additional requirement is to have time attributes such as the dates/times when a link came to be and when it ceased to be. I am mapping people and roles and various things for which the people are responsible. But it can go way beyond people and roles, for example the relationships among organizational entities (e.g., Romania (Thought of type "Country)) - is member of (instance of Link Type) - NATO (Thought of type "Organization") - with attributes of the instance of "is member of" being "Starting from" <datetimestamp> and ̌Ending at" <datetimestamp>.

As a consequence, you should be able to only show the relations which go towards or away from the actual thought. This way, I can f.e. link some areas that I want to review regularly to a "review" thought, but the link will only be shown when I am in the "review" thought, not when I am in the thought that should be reviewed regularly (this one might have other, more meaningful links)

I love the "virtual thought" idea - like "group by" in a mail or task program, it collects a certain type of linked thought under a sub-heading as if there was an intervening thought there!!

A special case case of directional links that I often bump up against is when there is only one direction! For example, I mention "perfuctory" in a thought name. I always forget what perfunctory means, so I link to its definition. However, this current thought should not be seen every time I activate the perfunctory thought.
I was thinking a neat way to implement this would be to have wiki-like hyperlinks in thought names, so I could create a thought named "... which led to a [perfunctory] application of..." and then [perfunctory] (the brackets would be invisible in the name) would hyperlink to the thought "perfunctory," but not vice versa. I started the discussion here: http://www.thebrain.com/#-102

The main thing I care about as far as link types is that links should have a type name independent of label. Here are two threads that sum up my feelings about the present way links are handled:

I really like the option to filter which links are visible in adathorne's screen capture, http://forums.thebrain.com/post?id=2418770
