<text>It would be nice to be able to define types of nodes with associated properties. For example, maybe an "event" type node with properties such as "name of event", date, duration, etc. I could also envision a "person" type node with name, birth place, birth date, etc. Yet another example could be a "research" type node with the name of the research paper, lead author's name, university affiliation, date published, names of other collaborators.

An example of a structured node that is buried in the text is at http://forums.thebrain.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=2733306

I imagine that the structured data structures would be relational and this would facilitate logical data-base oriented queries beyond tagging. For example, find all research papers published between 2001 and 2002. Find all research papers with "cognition" in the title and "Jones" as lead author.

Find all people born in a certain state during a certain time.

I am thinking about the query capability to make it easier to do more interesting investigations (especially for users who may not have created the brain)

<text>Normal View in 4.5 only shows two levels of hierarchy (parent and active thoughts), leaving the child level to hold "content" thoughts. Much of the content we mirror in PB is in fact hierarchical, and extends much deeper than two levels of "folders" (e.g. SharePoint structures tend to get quite deep).

Normal View, effectively the "hierarchical view" in PB, is unlike Distant Thought view (Normal view with "+" pressed) and Expanded View, which are better suited for navigating in a non-hierarchal way. Both of these options display additional relationships for all thoughts on screen and/or require manual intervention to keep thoughts on screen or expand / collapse individual nodes.

In addition, "Don't shrink with Distance" doesn't apply to Distant Thoughts View, leading to unreadable distant thoughts.

Neither of these views is as effective at navigating hierarchical links as Normal View.

I propose adding a limited "grandparent" level to Normal View, that would not display all the "aunt and uncle" links (siblings of the parents). This is "symmetric" with how child thoughts are displayed today, where jump thoughts are not shown.

The grandparent level would not be shrunken (as with Normal View and "+") and the grandparents would not leave the screen or require manual intervention, as with Expanded View.

If desired an "up arrow" button or similar in Normal View could be used to Expand only grandparents.

I can imagine alternative ways to improve hierarchical navigation, though they have disadvantages:
 1) "Keep grandparents on screen" in Expanded View (though the screen in Expanded View would still be more complex than Normal View)
 2) Allow "shrinking" to be disabled in Normal View with "+" pressed (though as with Expanded View this would still show many more thoughts than a grandparent level).
 3) "somehow" enhance the Properties area so that multiple children could be more effectively stored in a single thought, letting the plex be used for hierarchy and the Properties for "Content". A lot would be lost with this approach, unless "Properties" items could still have thought links. This sounds terribly complex!

After considering the present options, I conclude that a grandparent level, "symmetric" with the present Child level, would be an excellent solution for improved navigation of hierarchical elements in a brain.</text>

<text>Please add an "Arrange By" thought property to set the ordering of a thought's children whenever that thought is the Active Thought in Normal View. This property should offer the same choices as the global "Arrange By" option, plus "Use global Arrange By".

When this property is not set for a given thought, it will default to "Use global Arrange By".

This request has appeared in the forums but usually in the context of other "Arrange By" topics, so I thought it might benefit from a clear statement separate from other requests.

This should be reasonably easy to implement as there is only one Active Thought at a time in Normal View.

Some people may also want to see custom ordering apply to jump thoughts or to the parents' children (the sibling), though in the case of parent thoughts there might be more than one custom order present and then PB would need to make an arbitrary selection.

There could also be logic or performance questions that would either make it better or worse to include or exclude other plex regions.

As long as the core idea was implemented for the Active Thought, I do not have strong opinions about sorting the other regions. I lean slightly towards "best performance with this feature implemented".</text>

Currently one must select and edit each thought individually which is stoneage. We're now up to PB5. This is urgent. How about it guys? I know this has been suggested in the main forum at least once, but haven't found it in UserVoice, so here goes.</text>

The selection boxes should be remembered when closing brain, and restored when opening brain.

Most of the time, I use the Selection box as a temporary place to store the thoughts that I'm currently working on. Usually I need to frequently switch between these thoughts. No, I don't want to use pins or tags for this task, because I feel pins and tags are far less efficient as Selection box for this task.</text>
