develop a Personal Brain iPhone App
I had posted this as an idea but was not clear that I expected an iPhone App that could Synch with "Brains in the Cloud" Thus having Cloud based Brains is a key step but did not "Complete" My original idea. An iPhone App would be able to take full advantage of the iPhone UI and Multi Finger controls.
Thus the repost
TheBrain for iOS is out now worldwide. It features separate native UIs designed for iPad and iPhone. Thanks everyone for your patience.

Would love the iPad version. Of course I'll need to be able to read my existing file into it, not only create a new one. And sync with either online kept version of my file(s), or both computers (at work and at home) would be very much appreciated.

Brain in a Cloud to enable a team or community to share their "thoughts" would be an incredible valuable feature. I'm a big user of Lotus Notes Team Rooms / databases. Allowing multiple team members the ability to share thoughts and then replicate in the cloud would be a massive "THINKING" enabler. I am starting up a small business and plan to leverage "The Brain" as my core information / decision making system. But I'm struggling with how I can set up a "Shared Brain" across my business partners and keep our systems in sync. We will be using MacBook Pros, a Snow Leopard Server, and iPhones. If anyone has a solution already...I'd love to hear it. Either way I fully support Brain in a Cloud with a way to access and update via MacBook, iPhone, MobileMe...or some other system like DropBox.

Now that the iPad is almost here, the concerns about screen real estate for a Brain UI may be answered... I'm voting for the app on iPhone or iPad (or both)...

While having TheBrain on the iPhone & iPodTouch will be cool, it will be sub-optimal due to the limited display area. Building a TheBrain that is designed for the iPad's more spacious form factor will be much more functional and useful. Definitely want to be able to view and update brains while not tethered to the cloud/net (see also: the suggestion for "TheBrain Viewer" family of products).

An iPhone (which I own and use ubiquitously) may not be the best platform for PB due to the limited screen real estate--but an iPad--now that would be a different story.

I'm pro pb iPhone/ipad app too.. Android would be nice too.. Love this app guys.. Pb is a far better browsing experience than any other. It replaces windows explorer for me.. People at work are starting to take notice. The vp of the company asked me to show him how to port some excell data into pb for quicker, cooler and more easily filtered access.. Good times..

I think an iPad version of Personal Brain could be great. The biggest problem at the moment probably is that Personal Brain is a Java app. I think syncing is also going to be a problem because of the possibility to add files to a brain. I also believe that a native OS X app (Cocoa) would fly in comparison to the java version and could be much more appealing visually. That said, Personal Brain could be a big success on the iPad.

Please, please please make an iPhone AND iPad PB app. It would make total sense for people trying to stay on track with their goals/thoughts on the move who are currently limited to their desktop. The app should be accessible offline without a doubt and when 'online', should allow the user to be able to wirelessly syncrhonise their iPhone with their iPad with their laptop with their desktop etcetera, in a similar fashion to the way in which MobileMe synchronises data between iPhone and computer or computer and 2nd computer.

Please make sure the native app works on both iPhone and iPad! I'm sure PB can take good advantage of gestures on iPhone/iPad and the extra screen space on the iPad.

This would be incredibly powerful with the additional interface features of the iPad, and would singlehandedly make my decision to purchase the device. Include an embedded browser for easy-add Web sites, and it's capability would be incredible.

Hello Adrius42,
I've cast my vote for this, as I think we all agree at a high level that a PB iPhone app is a great idea. I would like to get a couple clarifications on what specifically you are asking for though. Basically I'd like to get a better feel for what your real goals of an iPhone app are (what you'd like it to do).
1) Are you asking for operations while disconnected from the network (aka offline access)? Say, for example, access while on an airplane that doesn't have inflight Internet (or any other situation where a network connection is not available).
2) Are you asking for concurrent access from other computers? In some people's minds, the "Cloud" carries the connotation of concurrent access from multiple computers and I just want to understand which type of functionality you are asking for.
The reason I'm asking these questions is that I would like to understand your request so that I can know whether to cast my vote for this request or start another (which I'd rather not split off unless really necessary).
I completely agree with what Brad Konia said regarding Headspace. That type of touch/gesture interface is absolutely the way things are going and I would like to see TheBrain on the front-end of this wave. IMHO it offers the best future growth path for them and PersonalBrain. Some sort of relationship with Flat Black (License/Acquire) would give TheBrain a jumpstart in that direction, since I'm guessing, the lack of java on the iPhone is currently a limiting factor for them.
I too would like to see a relatively straight forward iPhone app, similar to/using the Headspace technology with a simple import/export capability to get data in/out of the other PB versions. At least as a STARTING point. In the long run, obviously full Cloud integration is the way to go, but it's a question of the best way to get there in the mean time. Thus the answers to my questions above would be very helpful.
Thanks,

I have been on Personal Brain since Siggraph 1998 and here in 2010 I miss the everywhere Cloud freedom a Iphone app would give me - So IPhone Personal Brain is to me Cloudbased service with full sync and write access from a browser on PC and MAC and write access from a fast iPhone app - So please consider also voting for "Brain in a Cloud"

Please consider retrieving some of your votes here and voting instead for remote editing and use of Brain(s) in a Cloud from remote computers with PB installed (iPhone could support some functionality for interacting with the Brains in a cloud but otherwise this idea is 'device agnostic'). Take back some of your 203 votes and apply them to a very worthy Personal Brain remote computing (editing not just viewing) version.

I don't care about an iPhone app (I use the Palm Pre for WebOS) but I do care about Brains in a Cloud to allow using a brain from anywhere. Thus, I wish these two ideas were separated as I can not vote for an iPhone app.
Conversely, there are often times multiple uservoice "elections" which fragment the voting (like having an independent candidate robbing votes from the two party candidates, refer to Ralph Nadar and Al Gore). I wonder if there is a way to split off votes (I guess so since people can re-vote) and I wonder if there is a way to invite votes from a forgotten election to join your user voice election (I guess same is true).

Also, I just installed Headspace on my iPhone. It's an amazing mindmapping app that works in three dimensions. You can move about through the map space, rotating and panning in 3-D. If this sounds like a gimmick, it's not. The 3-D UI allow you to overcome the limitation of the iPhone's small screen area (compared with a desktop PC). Also, the linking paradigm is very similar to PB's. You create groups and each group has its own hierarchy, but you can also link any item in any group to another item in the same group or a completely different group. Thus you have both a conventional hierarchical structure, as well as the equivalent of jump links. Before Brain Technologies comes out with their iPhone app, they should really check out Headspace to get some ideas for how PB's UI could be implemented on the iPhone. Frankly, I would be very happy with an app that had Headspace's functionality, but could sync with PB. If I were Brain Technologies, I would buy Headspace, add the ability to sync with PB and re-release it as the official PB iPhone app. Headspace currently imports/exports Freemind format, so it would probably be pretty easy to add PB sync capability.
You can check out Headspace at the following URL:

Just an FYI...for those who say that iPhone isn't powerful enough to handle this, SOHO Notes, which is one of the leading hierarchical organizers on the Mac announced that they have submitted an iPhone version to the app store and it's pending approval. SOHO Notes has pretty much all the same functionality as Personal Brain. The only thing it doesn't have is the Brain's visual metaphor, instead using a traditional folder display. If SOHO Notes can run on an iPhone, there's no reason why PB can't. Check it out:

Building on my previous comments, there could potentially be a tiered capability for an iPhone app, corresponding to the Free, Core, and Pro versions of PersonalBrain. A free app with the right set of capabilities would take the PersonalBrain viral.
