A work around for this is use url like "brain://brain_guide/thought_guid" in external programs, like a html editor to work as a project.

    Hi, jroeterd,
    Thanks for the comment.
The essence is that I need two views simultaneously. One is tree-like, stable and shows me the big picture. Another is more dynamic one shows the details.
You are right that we can use pins to guide us. A list of pins can work as a project. But only one project at a time. Since I am a one-brain user, one is not enough. Does this means something to you?
There are ways to work around, almost always. PB provides us the framework, super-flexible. We can use it in anyway. But concepts in knowledge/project management can be introduced into it, to make it get closer to real world. I should have the money to buy BrainSDK or the time to develop the same framework and code it to meet my own needs. Or thebrain can bring the API.

The latest PB supports link "brain://brain_guid/thought_guid", which can be used to link Thought into external programs. So this request is no longer needed.

Together with this request, there needs to be a "copy Thoughts as text with Guid", otherwise it will be cumbersome to export the guid for each Thought one by one.

BTW: The conversion utility is written in pure python and has been tested on Windows XP (python 2.54) and Linux(python 2.43). A test on Mac Os X will be done later. It works better than PB's build-in freemind import feature.

Anybody who vote for this will receive a copy of my utility to convert freemind to brainxml. Thanks.

There is a new report in TheBrain 9 that locates thoughts with the same name so that they can be merged or otherwise adjusted. A “merge thoughts” capability is planned.

This command will be included in the next major release, version 12.

When we find there are more than one Thoughts with the same name and mean the same, it will be nice to be able to combine them into one. That is to say, keep only one copy and combine their properties and relations.

In that case, we can copy them as a jump Thoughts, i.e., Thoughts represent the same thing under different parents. This a way but not an ideal one. What I have suggested is just a way to make numbering more convenient when needed.

An API with access to the database will do the work, together with customaziable user interface.

I got a reply from theBrain saying they will publish an API in 2009.
