Mandatory version of Java Runtime Environment
With the recent issue of disappearing notes due to the new version of Java Runtime Environment being used as found in several posts on the forum, I wanted to propose the following. When the developers compile the PersonalBrain.exe file to mandate the maximum version of Java Runtime Environment to match the latest version they have performed their testing with. This should help reduce the occasion that an issue can creep up due to some change Oracle made to the Java Runtime Environment. At which point said issue would befall on the users of PersonalBrain when they upgrade their Java Runtime Environment.
Not everyone disables the auto update feature of Java Runtime Environment. Of course, I am not suggesting that updates to Java be forsaken as like Windows it has become the target of malware exploits and prone to security patches that can possibly change the behavior of code written for that environment. Since the developers release diligent updates to fix any issues or introduct new features, the addition of the maximum version of Java Runtime Environment can be increased as new versions of the environment are released and thoroughly tested.
I applaud the developers resolution speed of the issue that was created by Java Runtime Environment 1.6.022 and 1.6.023. If this issue wasn't isolated to notes and was affecting each user's PersonalBrain database to a greater degree, I would hate to think of the consequences of that kind of event. And yes, there is always the faithful backup of your database that you can count on but what matters just as much is your faith in PersonalBrain to function with stability as your partner in your journey down the path of knowledge management.
