Dependency Status Indicators (with Jump-Link Propagation)
I’d like to see a simple “dependency status” feature in TheBrain where thoughts representing materials, tools, equipment, or consumables can be marked as OK, Low, or Unavailable. If any of these become unavailable, that status would automatically propagate through all connected thoughts — including parent AND jump links — and visually flag any process or project that depends on them. This would make blocked workflows instantly obvious and give TheBrain lightweight, built-in dependency awareness without adding UI bloat.
Core Idea
Allow any thought to carry a status flag:
OK
Low / Running Out
Unavailable / Broken
When a dependency goes Low or Unavailable:
Its connecting links turn yellow or red
The dependent thought receives a small indicator
Status rolls upward through parent links and jumps
Higher-level processes see the issue instantly, even across long or complex graphs
This adds simple, powerful workflow intelligence without changing how people build their brains.
Why It’s Useful
Many users track projects, builds, inventories, and workflows that rely on materials or tools. When a required item is depleted or broken, the task becomes blocked — but TheBrain currently has no way to reflect that automatically.
This feature solves that cleanly, visually, and without extra complexity.
Examples
Maker / DIY
If “Build CNC Jig” depends on “¼" MDF” and the MDF is out of stock, the MDF thought flags unavailable. The status automatically propagates through normal and jump links back to the project, turning the project’s dependency links red so you can see instantly why it’s blocked.
Business / Workflow
If a “Client Proposal” depends on a “Pricing Spreadsheet” and the file becomes outdated or missing, the proposal thought and its jump links show the blocked state without digging.
Maintenance / Operations
If “Pump Service Task” depends on an “O-ring Kit” that’s depleted, the service task highlights the issue through all connected paths.
Research / Knowledge Work
If a “Whitepaper Draft” depends on a “Key Source PDF” and that source is unavailable, the draft thought shows the break in its chain immediately.
Summary
A lightweight, visual dependency status system — propagating through standard and jump links — would let TheBrain clearly show when a process, task, or project is blocked by a missing or impaired component. Simple to understand, powerful in practice, and fully in line with TheBrain’s visual relationship model.
