    True, but why is that bad in 2009? I know it *feels* wrong, but inodes are cheap, directory changes are cheap, file handles are cheap. The dummy-file approach is how most other apps deal with it as well; they create a directory in /Library/Caches/Metadata/.

    See for example https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290057#c8. If the Mozilla team can embrace this newthink, you KNOW it must be socially acceptable now :)

    On the Mac, having data inaccessible from Spotlight is the moral equivalent of not having that data. It's much more integrated into workflows than Windows Desktop Search.
