  1. When you place a large file (over 50MB) and also use the online synch feature, you get an error that the file is too large every time the product attempts to synch the brain online.

I want to keep the file in the thought folder, but skip any attempt to uploading it.

I'd like some sort of flag or file attribute that I can set that will avoid any attempts to synch this file OR suppress the error after I acknowledge it the first time.

  2. Import:
    1. The following cannot be imported without creating duplicate “Red” thoughts which are not associated with each other.

    Foods
    [TAB]Apples
    [TAB][TAB]Red
    [TAB]Peppers
    [TAB][TAB]Green
    [TAB][TAB]Red

BUT, now that red is in the database the following import prompts you to associate red with either of the 2 existing "red" thoughts:

    Radishes
    [Tab]Red

Is there a way to get it to prompt the same question when the thoughts are imported all at once? The work around is to create a “Colors” thought and put to child-thoughts in it, one for “Red” and one for “Green”. Then when you import it will ask…

  3. Humans don't keep their data in excel like this:

                 [COLUMN 1] [COLUMN 2]

    [LINE 1] Apples
    [LINE 2] Red
    [LINE 3] Peppers
    [LINE 4] Red
    [LINE 5] Green

Humans keep their data in spreadsheets like this:

                 [COLUMN 1] [COLUMN 2]

    [LINE 1] Apples Red
    [LINE 2] Peppers Red
    [LINE 3] Green

To reformat the data is no trivial task. I don't even mind importing 10 separate times to get 10 separate child thoughts for my 100 parent thoughts, but I certainly don't want to reformat 1000 thoughts because the import outline utility is not robust and has not improved since…

  5. I would suggest the possibility of creating groups according to one or multiple factors, color-coded, like we can do in mind manager, and consider the group as one entity, able to create links with some others groups. Then we would be able to create a fractal structure. For instance, a city is one entity, containing thousands of streets, and this city is a part of a department, that we can consider as one, etc. This would be great.

  7. When I am loading The Brain with documents, I will do a given set with the same metadata first. I would like to be able to cut/paste the metadata (e.g. relationship links, jumps, etc.) from one thought to another.

For example, I am loading a series of documents that are being stored under Documentation, but I want to relate to Product A and Product B. The first one I store I create the jump links. The second one I store, I want to be able to copy the relationships from the first thought. This can be either in cut/paste or…

  8. I'm doing some network documentation, and have organized my Thoughts by IP address.

E.g. Top of the network is named "142", then a node down is named "142, 113", etc.

This organizes the addresses hierarchically but makes searching difficult since most people would normally search with periods as delimiters. E.g. "142.113.124.1".

Would it be possible to have an option, as an attribute of a Thought type, that would cause periods (or any user-selectable character) in the Thought name to be treated as commas are currently treated?

This would facilitate any hierarchy that used periods as delimiters.

  9. Government IT policy prohibits the use of freeware programs due to legal liability issues. For this reason, PersonalBrain can not be loaded for general users as a PB Reader. Thus, it is not in common use and not growing in popularity as much as it should be.
An LT version would allow the software to be used and thus give it more visability to potential users.

  10. Due to visual impairment I require a black background and white text. Fortuantely the Brain allows one to set default background and text color. However there does not appear to be anyway to modify the default color of hyperlink text. (you can after the fact manually change the color, but this becomes really tedious). Ideally as a section 508 compliant tool, one should be able to change all colors in a way where the application is fully accessibly compliant for those with visual disabilities. Being able to specify a userdefined stylesheet, (or just allowing more flexiblity in the UI to…

  14. Extended layouts can be very useful to show informations in a very specific context. For that it could be rather helpful to be able to assign specific colors to ideas and links per extended view (For this to work best it would be good if one could assign layout-local colors to all ideas/links in the selection at the same time - or to reset the colors to the defaults for all selected elements correspondingly)

  15. In all the brain possibilities you offer, they all correspond to an anglo-saxon- , linguistic/ syntax pattern, none of your "infinities" match the complexity of implicit cultures/languages... the decision tree shown here, is not the complex arborescence, hamadryade thinking. when are you going to start thinking about integrating these multi-dimensional ways of thinking (Leonardo da Vinci style) ?

  16. I have autostart activated, so TheBrain starts at boot time.
Unfotunately that means it's always a race whether my WLAN or TheBrain is up first. In the latter case TheBrain permanently disables the syncing feature (because it thinks it is offline) - even if the internet connection is available seconds ago.
That means I have to close TheBrain and open it again in order to be able to sync - so the "autostart convenience" is gone.
(I know this could be circumvented by introducing a script that starts TheBrain after it ensured that the internet connection is there - or…

  17. When using the smaller screen on my laptop, I usually have the notes/thought area hidden so that the Plex fills the entire screen. I've assigned a (Mac) keyboard shortcut (Command-Shift-n) to show the Notes window. This is great, and keeps the notes area out of the way until I need it, but it seems there's no way to close the Notes window again using the keyboard. I'd expect Command-w to work, or possibly Escape, but neither works.

    1. In my presentations I hover over Thoughts that contain only a single image file, which allows me to move through the presentation without having to open external programs. The drawback to using this very effective presentation method is that I have to store each image's source file (e.g., a snagit file) elsewhere instead of in the same Thoughts with the images. I need to be able to put these, and other, files into a Thought but still be able to hover over the Thought to activate the image file. I.e., for each Thought that will be used as part of…

  19. In my field of medical transcription I have hundreds of terms in my brain. I can set the thought types all at once, but perhaps even more important is setting their relationship types all at once, because this is extremely time-consuming.

For example. I want all my terms to be stored under "Medical Terms" and the respective lessons I learned them in. Having either one of these umbrella topics as a parent completely messes up the display of sister topics under, say "Diffusion". What I'm saying is when I look at "isotonic" (child of "Diffusion"), I can't see: hypertonic: hypotonic,…
