  1. Before Brain, I maintained ideas as Outlook tasks, each of which could listed within multiple categories. Presently there's no good import. I can, however, drag an entire category of tasks into a Thought that matches the Outlook category name. The tasks then become attachments with active links. Not bad!

Now I should be able to right click somewhere to turn each such attachment into a child of the Thought that contains it. So it has its own identity and links within Brain's hierarchy.

And if the attachment is associated with another Thought, Brain should offer to multi-parent as well as…

  2. Particularly if a new thought is activated anyway, please offer a Preference to indicate that the new Thought has been created without the pulsing, tedious, highly distracting animation.

  3. Add folding/unfolding of children by thought. "Folding" is a standard feature in all good code/text editors because of its usefulness. This very useful feature is available in Freemind and Inspiration. Can have a small button on each thought to show or hide its children. Might have option so plex focus doesn't change when this button is hit allowing selective unfolding of thoughts. More selective then "Expanding"

This is already available in the Outline view of version 5. If you mean something different, please explain. Thanks.

  4. Numerical tallies displayed on the (active?) thought showing how many descendants have a particular tag set. Great for finding to-dos, reviewing status on projects, etc

  5. Now when pasting outline, Personal Brain will prompt for a list of action to take when there has been already some thought with the same name. This is very useful when creating inter-linked map. Then why not make this available to import?
Another issue when people import or paste is the frequent refresh of Plex. That's not necessary and consumes CPU, which may make the import or paste process much slower.

  6. Usually when I download or save a file from softwares into a Thought's folder (i.e. to link to that thought), I rename the file to the Thought's name (As long as there are no illegal characters inside as a filename). In this way, the file is searchable by its related Thought's name outside PersonalBrain.
So all theBrain guys need to do is add a context menuitem to a Thought's context menu.

There could be many tricks (or patterns) to use PersonalBrain in a efficient way, within the newest features PersonalBrain provides. We can discover the patterns and make them more…

  8. I must say that this is one of the most annoying areas of the software...
    - rather than having to click on the thought (sometimes twice) to use mouse wheel to increase the font size (sometimes the active node is out of the view) why not just assign a shortcut key that when pressed along with mouse wheel will adjust font size?
    - along the same idea, another shortcut + MW would make horizontal spacing of nodes in outline and expanded views
    - another shortcut would increase the spacing vertically
    - yet another would make the links longer or shorter…

  9. While the expanded view is a great idea, it has a few very annoying 'bugs'. They make the view almost a pain to use.

    • Zooming - even with pinned nodes, you should still be able to zoom in and out, either by keeping the structure and shortening the links (text size stays the same) or by doing a full zoom in/out (as if you're zooming a picture)

    • Pinned locations of child nodes are lost when the parent node is minimized... very, very annoying

    • you should be able to drag a selection rectangle or a lasso around nodes and quickly pin…

  10. Without "usability" features (to quickly do things) features become too time consuming to use. Types and Tags are useful but take too much time use use effectively. The new submenu structure for Types is frustrating because it creates new need to navigate an extra submenu. Submenu frustration is a well known major design flaw in Windows (how many times have you tried to "hit" a submenu only to have to start all over again). The Context menu should include a list of recently used types (and tags) to greatly improve use of those features (other suggestions have focused on the…

  11. It would be very nice if there was an option in Preferences that allows users to choose whether "active thought name" or "brain name" to be displayed in title bar.

  13. Something looks like this:
    http://forums.thebrain.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=2173443

Too many times when I try to type something in the search box, I found the text was inserted in the notes section.

It would be nice if the search box changes its background color when it got the focus.

  15. Right clicking and selecting a tag provides a menu sub-divided by the tag names.

Right clicking and selecting a thought type provides a sub-divided menu with lower case alpha characters.

Right clicking on a selection, the Add Tag and Set Selection Thought Type menus are not sub-divided.

I think it would polish the PB product and make it look a little more professional if there was better consistency in these context menus.

  17. It would be nice to have a menu option (perhaps under the Thought menu) to recenter the expanded view to the currently active thought. This would be helpful to avoid getting lost after panning around a large expanded view.

  18. The hide tag hints option in 5.0.0.9 is great. It just takes too many steps to switch back and forth. I propose that a button be added to the tool bar to show/hide tag hints, so that it can be toggled on and off quickly.

  19. Could shortcuts for pins be implemented?
Something like Alt-1 for the 1st pin, Alt-2 for the second, and so on from left to right up to Alt-0.

  20. Clicking the little tag legend on a thought in the Plex activates the corresponding Tag Thought. -- very convenient for getting to all like-tagged thoughts.
