folding/unfolding children via small button on each thought
Add folding/unfolding of children by thought. "Folding" is a standard feature in all good code/text editors because of its usefulness. This very useful feature is available in Freemind and Inspiration. Can have a small button on each thought to show or hide its children. Might have option so plex focus doesn't change when this button is hit allowing selective unfolding of thoughts. More selective then "Expanding"

This is already available in the Outline view of version 5. If you mean something different, please explain. Thanks.

Correction to foregoing: in 2nd case of clicking on child body in outline mode (e.g., to see its notes), should keep tree contents intact. Only change the contents of the plex (the current action) if shift key is held down while clicking. The button is for folding/unfolding. Keeping the entire tree visible as is, unless user consciously folds/unfolds with button, is a main advantage of outlining.

When you click on a child thought in outline mode focus goes to child and the outline deriving from the parent thought is lost (i.e., its other children no longer show). Better on button click to keep the entire original view and expand the child thought. But if the child is clicked (but not on its button) then retain the current behavior of focusing on the child thought. Similar to Explorer tree.

Sorry, I still don't understand... What do you mean by "freeze plex"? How can the children be expanded if the plex does not move?

Upon further reflection, have small button on thought (even if only in outline mode). If clicked, expand children (one level) but freeze plex. If the thought is clicked not the button (in outline mode) then change focus to that thought as normal. This type functionality is standard in outliners and file managers. Users are familiar with it and it is extremely useful.

One modification to outline mode folding/unfolding: Have way to freeze the plex when expanding thoughts in that mode. Could either freeze plex if shift held down when clicking on thought or have plex frozen as default and if shift held down then go to that thought (the current action).

the brain: I stand corrected respecting the outline view and have elsewhere expressed my view on the importance of beefing up this view to support user ordering. That said, if not too much trouble, it still would be useful in the normal plex view to have individual thought folding/unfolding to better focus on a particular thought train.

I really prefer an automated feature and have suggested my "grandparent in plex" idea in the "regular" forums and here as well..
(I like the thought-by-thought ideas as separate features, but I don't personally want to have to fiddle with the plex view all the time).
