An error occurred while saving the comment Scott Moehring commentedI've been using Braintoss (https://braintoss.com/). It's the lowest friction note capture tool I have. It loads in about 2 seconds, and I have it set up to automatically open a new note. I use speech-to-text or swipe type, and it sends the note (or image) to a pre-assigned email address. I can have several emails addresses and switch between them in the moment.
Why share this? I think there is something to be borrowed from how it works.
The email function works with any app that accepts email as input. I am emailing the notes to my task manager (Nozbe). I modified the Braintoss settings (standard feature, easy to do) to append various hashtags to the subject line which Nozbe automatically interprets as project name, category, and priority. Then I process them later.
All I'm missing is a way to send those emails directly into TheBrain or BrainBox. How cool would it be to tell TheBrain via hashtags to add the content of each email as a new Child Thought under a specific Thought or Type or Tag?
Braintoss also has the ability to attach to the email a .txt file of the same content. It is named like this: "braintoss-2024-10-06-23-07-06-note.txt". That also feels useful. I found if I drag that text file into the BrainBox folder on my desktop, I can then open BrainBox and use it to create a new Child Thought.
I will also mention that my task app Nozbe has a global hotkey on my Mac that opens a window no matter what program I'm in. I can type a new task, and then type a hashtag to see a list of tagging options. I can enter as many hashtags as I want. See attached screenshot.
Again, I only say all this because it feels like a lot of the parts are there to enable easier capture of notes on the fly without having to use other apps. Those parts just aren't all connected yet.

I love the way Pins are a dropdown menu in the Web Client. That solves access to all the Pins in my list because I can scroll. Currently if I have more Pins than horizontal space, there is no way to get to them. Or add a set of sideways scroll arrows like in the history bar at the bottom.
I also like how in the Web Client Pin dropdown I can read all of the names because they aren't smashed together like my overfull Pin bar in the desktop.
What I haven't worked out is how to drag a link to a dropdown list of Pins. Maybe opening the Pin dropdown is a toggle, and it stays open with linkable Thoughts until you toggle it closed.
@David Hawkins idea to show Parents and/or Children for Pins is intriguing! Might break for heavily linked Thoughts, but it's still an intriguing idea.
