Lower the price-point for academic use
Ultimately, I think TheBrain is overpriced for student-use... The TeamBrain isn't even out of beta-testing, and with the student discount it is priced at $240 a year for the team-based product, or the individual version is $240 up-front and $159 a year.
I think you folks are missing an opportunity to build a following –a customer base. Many other companies seem to understand that if they can get people hooked on their products while learning in academia they can get them hooked for life.
Medical school is extremely collaborative -at least mine is. It's not competitive like undergrad when people…

Add "Copy File Path" shortcut in Attachment right-click menu
When I need to bring a Brain-resident file into a Gmail email or Facebook, or into anything else where you can't copy/paste the file itself, it's a multi-step process to get the file's full path. There has to be an easier way to get a file's full path into the clipboard, so my suggestion is that a "Copy File Path" selection be added to the menu that appears when you right-click an attachment. Thanks.

Allow importing of data the way humans organize data...
Humans don't keep their data in spreadsheets like this:
---------[COLUMN 1]---------- [COLUMN 2]
[LINE 1]---Apples
[LINE 2] ----------------------------Red
[LINE 3]---Peppers
[LINE 4] ----------------------------Red
[LINE 5] ----------------------------GreenHumans keep their data in spreadsheets like this:
---------[COLUMN 1]---------- [COLUMN 2]
[LINE 1]---Apples------------------ Red
[LINE 2]---Peppers----------------Red
[LINE 3]------------------------------GreenTo reformat the data is no trivial task. I don't even mind importing 10 separate times to get 10 separate child thoughts for my 100 parent thoughts, but I certainly don't want to reformat 1000 thoughts because the import outline utility is not robust and has not improved since version 4.5 of the Brain.
I'd…

Stop duplicating child thoughts on initial import of data
Import:
1. The following cannot be imported without creating duplicate “Red” thoughts which are not associated with each other.Foods
[TAB]Apples
[TAB][TAB]Red
[TAB]Peppers
[TAB][TAB]Green
[TAB][TAB]RedBUT, now that red is in the database the following import prompts you to associate red with either of the 2 existing "red" thoughts:
Radishes
[Tab]RedIs there a way to get it to prompt the same question when the thoughts are imported all at once? The work around is to create a “Colors” thought and put to child-thoughts in it, one for “Red” and one for “Green”. Then when you import it will ask…

Create a flag to skip synch attempts of large files (over 50MB)
When you place a large file (over 50MB) and also use the online synch feature, you get an error that the file is too large every time the product attempts to synch the brain online.
I want to keep the file in the thought folder, but skip any attempt to uploading it.
I'd like some sort of flag or file attribute that I can set that will avoid any attempts to synch this file OR suppress the error after I acknowledge it the first time.

Allow superscript and subscript formats in thoughts/nodes
It would make it easier and neater for scientific/mathematical-type thoughts to be input.
No format (like it is now): C6H12O6 & 2x^3 + 3x^2 + 2x - 1
With superscript/subscript format: (How it works in Microsoft Word 2007)8 votes -
additional thoughts shapes

special formatting to thoughts
I would like to be able to apply special formatting to a thoughts such as Bold, Italic, Underline as well as different colours to a word or group of words within a thought rather than having this default formatting. E.g. let us say I have a thought named Most common Syndromes then I would love the formatting to appear in Bold and in red within the thoughts so it makes stand out more from the rest and will help remember information like catch eye effect or buzz word when the brain is large. Right now, only the branches can change…

Customisable tool bar for Mac OS/PC
The tool bar is not customisable. I would love to be able to have some

The special characters tab for Mac OSX
The special characters tab is not present within your application for
Mac OS. This special characters which is present in the edit tab should be available and is available in all Mac OS designed applications since the tab is not an optional feature for all Mac OSX whether from Apple or private retailers. This special character tab allows me to increase speed in note-taking whether during lectures or
studying/revising as well as many other things.0 votes -

automatic colouring of the branches
It will be good to have a feature that allows one to have different colours for branches automatically rather than doing it manually. This will help increase efficiency and speed as well as emphasise important points

Extend text formatting options with LaTeX
For those unfamiliar, LaTeX is a very flexible typesetting language that allows full control of anything from simple formatting to the proper display of complex formulas.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX and http://www.latex-project.org/I think adding the ability to parse and display LaTeX code could greatly enhance functionality without really increasing complexity of the user interface. This is a great program to store and represent just about any idea that can easily be expressed in text. I am however, sorely missing two features:
-The ability to input cleanly formatted formulas.
-The ability quickly draw small pictures/graphs/schematics withing the program to add them directly…79 votes -

Interact with Daylite
As a Mac-based small business manager, I can't be alone in using Marketcircle's excellent Daylite contact/task management database alongside TheBrain. It would be fantastic if TheBrain could link to individual objects (contacts, tasks, notes, projects, opportunities) in Dayllite, just as it can in DevonThink, which I also use for deep storage. At the moment the best I can do is link to open Daylite and then search for the object I need.

When using the Calendar, single instances of a reoccurring event should be able to be marked complete.
When using the Calendar where I have set an Event to be reoccurring
forever, I would like to be able to mark the current instance of that
event as completed so a strike through line appears through the event
that has been completed but not affecting the later events that haven't
occurred as yet. This would be very helpful as you can get a instant
indication when looking at the Calendar that an event has been done
otherwise you have to go drilling into the event to see if it has been
done. I tend to use this to show…1 vote
