Make it so much easier to create a note on the fly
I take notes on the fly using other products and it's a stupid shame that I rarely use TB to do so. Doesn't it make sense to laser focus in on a shortened process for users and potential users to be able to view TB as the ideal note taking product/service that competes head on with the plethora of note taking apps that shall ultimately disappear? I like the idea of The Brain Box being re-imagined as the in-box for ideas and web snapshots to be used later when using TB desktop or web client.

Manual Sorting for Thoughts
Add the ability to manually sort thoughts under a parent.
Currently can use hidden numbering, however this is hard to maintain if the sorting needs to be adjusted, especially changing number in the middle of the sort.56 votes -

Improve backlink (unlinked mention) recognition, by allowing thoughts to have aliases
Sometimes you have thoughts that have some formal longer name, like there are companies named "International Consolidated Airlines Group SA" in real life. But when you refer to it in your notes with a shorter name, the reference won't be recognized.
Now, you don't want to fully write out this name each time, but you also don't want to manually create a link each time you write shorter version like "ICAG SA", not only would that be a work-around, often you actually don't want to create a clickable link at all and just leave it with a dotted underline, but…

Enable AI to Summarize PDFs into Notes
I save many PDFs as child thoughts under a parent that describes the area of research those pdfs are relevant to. It would be useful for AI note generation to be able to use the contents of the PDFs. In this way a thought that contains a PDF could have a summary of the PDF as a note and I wouldn't have to open the PDF and read it entirely to know what it contains. I would like to be able to change link types all at once, similar to being able to changing types all at once. You can go to a parent thought and link all to children, so I think by this same logic you should be able to easily implement something like a change multiple link types at once. I use this a lot for families and showing lines of succession. Let the note editor seamlessly work with selection of thoughts, editing continuous content
Currently, the note editor is restricted to the 'active' thought. However, I would like to edit thought notes in an integrated continuous way (like the scrivenings mode in Scrivener). This would allow me to work on content more easily that is distributed across notes (such as scenes of a novel.

Introduce a really TheBrain AI assistant
The way AI is implemented in theBrain is not a really assistant as e.g. Github Copilot. So it should have agents e.g. prompts starting with "@" and context ones e.g. prompts start with "/" which shall replace the existent ones in "notes" tool. Also as an AI assistant as a chat.

I would like to see transclusion of notes added to TheBrain. i.e., the process of referencing one thought "A" from another thought "B" such that the content of "A" appears to be a part of "B".

Idea capture
I've been using TB for 20 years; yup I'm an original.
As may seem logical, as much as TB is my virtual office space; I use other products and they inspire me to view their functions and capabilities that would fit nicely into TB without it seeming to be some kind of copy of competing products.
I trialled Tana app recently, and as much as it's to me just another complex PKM product that simply cannot rival TB, it has a rather awesome mobile device app called Tana Capture and I am super convinced we Brain users would benefit immensely…

Add Timeline feature to Web Brain
I have developed an extensive timeline of events tied to thoughts in my webbrain. I have no way to show external users that timeline on the web version of the brain. It would be nice to add for future releases the ability show the timeline view in the Web brain.

Add support for MathJax formulas, just like ANKI.
Both thoght nodes and notes support MathJax mathematical formulas to solve the problem of inability to input in subjects such as physics and chemistry. In addition, the formulas can support Chinese and other non-English characters.

Have a Markdown Template to Format Notes and Avoid Typing the Same Phrases
Have, in the note content editing area, a tool that allows us to use Markdown structure templates. Today, we can do this by tinkering a bit and using third-party files or external tools. For example, I use the third-party tool Lepton.
Ideally, this function should be integrated into TheBrain tool to save time and increase efficiency.
For example, I would like to quickly call up the following note structures:
- Footer note template (link to similar topics, update date, and copyright)
- Meeting note template (date, location, subject, participants, summary, and actions...)
- Contact note template

The note indicator in the Plex area and the back link in the note area can be hovered for viewing and editing like the Hover Editor plug-in
The note indicator in the Plex area and the back link in the note area can be hovered for viewing and editing like the Hover Editor plug-in in Obsidian. This is simply great. We need more powerful note editing functions.
The recent list below the Plex area allows you to view older ideas by scrolling the mouse wheel, which is very useful for users with small screens.

I would like to use an AI tool like perplexity or even internal Brain AI to search all thoughts and attachments
Right now the Brain ai tools go to the web to get their results. I would like to use all the information I have in my brains as the data source instead or in conjunction with the WWW. So this search could be from within the brain or via an external ai tool like perplexity
