Thanks, I didn't know there was a separate forum for this. Have done so.

I've just noticed that one of PB's hints suggests using a narrower font for thoughts to fit more in the plex. Not a bad idea.

But this would solve the ugly problem that when a thought is truncated and its tooltip pops up displaying the full name (when mouse hovers over thought), any associated file icons jump out of the way and assume a false position. You have to click where they *were*, not where they are. Good luck with this suggestion - it's badly needed.

I agree this looks better, particularly with comma-trick names, and is how mind mapping and flow chart programs display topics. The only problem is that where one thought has a large number of children, this would disturb horizontal alignment of child thought names. I presume your suggestion applies to Normal View. How would you resolve this?

This is an age-old problem. Currently links can have names, though they are not visible unless hovering over the link (and when they are as close as the strings on a guitar, which link does the name/label refer to?) It may be better to break the link with a thought in between, serving as a relationship descriptor. CmapTools does this well.

We can already mass-add thoughts to a selection box, then choose to make them all parent/child/jump thoughts, or even tags, of another thought. Why isn't this method adequate for your needs? No offence intended.

I would have thought that most people who copy and paste thoughts would want to include all associated attachments, notes, etc. It's easy to create a duplicate and delete all notes & attachments, but in what circumstances would you want to do this so frequently that a menu option might be desirable?

Great idea. Imagine a second Notes window named Preview which changes content to that of the thought hovered over. Then have a hotkey which, pressed, immobilizes Preview, allowing copying/moving of text *without* changing active thought. Preview could have a red border to indicate status. When finished, press hotkey again to toggle off and restore mobility.

(continued) For this to work, the child whose link is to be moved to a new parent must be a child of the active thought, which will nearly always be the case. PB must surely know at all times which thought is the active thought. If for any reason none of the child's parents is the active thought, creating the link will still proceed but no parents will be unlinked.

On re-reading this, I probably didn't make it all that clear. The purpose of holding the Ctrl key down while dragging a link from *child's* parent gate to new parent's child gate is to create this link AND unlink from the active thought (in the same operation), without making the new parent the exclusive link. We already have grandparent view simply by clicking the "+" button, but what I think you mean is that the grandparent thought should have same (or similar) font size and distance from parent as parent has from active thought. Excellent suggestion.
Where many siblings are displayed, the ability to suppress sibling display (by hotkey) would create more space for grandparents. My pet wish.

I agree. I have deleted all Labels because there is no way of preventing them from appearing. Just because, like Tags, Labels are handy for searching on doesn't mean that they should be forced under our noses every time we hover over them. These two design considerations are quite separate. Please give us the option to hide them or many will never use them.

I just managed to steal a vote from another suggestion, so here you go - one vote!
Votes around here seem to be as precious as hen's teeth, as the saying goes.

Great suggestion Antonio68! I think this is absolutely essential and would like to have given it 3 votes except that this silly system tells me I have 0 votes left. :(

Without noticing your suggestion here, i made a similar post in the main forum:
    http://websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=3182994

Without full wildcard search, searching in PersonalBrain is still very primitive.

I agree. It's not necessary to use ASCII character numbers preceded by percentage (e.g., %20 = %(ASCII character 20) = %("space") to represent spaces, etc. It's not only confusing to those who don't understand this convention, it makes accidental errors more likely since 3 characters (%, 2, 0) are involved, instead of just one (space).

What I meant was "stretch (or contract) the plex vertically without changing font size at the same time. Maybe holding the Shift or Alt keys down while scrolling would be a solution.

FYI, these “extra” links are already shown dimmed at half strength. Also, if you want less distractions, you can turn off the display of all links entirely until mouseover in Preferences.

Alternatively, if you included the simple option to "turn off sibling display", this should block nearly all crossing lines

Thanks Harlan. Actually, that's what I already do - turn off display of all links. It's much cleaner that way. However, it can also be a bit disorientating. So I would still like to be able to turn off the 4 classes of links as posted above, leaving only links not crossed by any others.
