  1. Hi all, really excited about the new release. My request involves having a folder on the filesystem that is watched and any markdown files inside this folder are automatically added as children of the folder thought in TheBrain. Ideally, this would also support a kind of bi-directional sync or live view of the markdown files so no matter which tool they are worked on (e.g. TheBrain, markdown editors, etc) the thoughts in TheBrain contain (or can point to and display) the latest version of the file.

I know this has been mentioned a few times in forums but doesn't seem…

  2. I would like to have the option to split the notes and attachments sections into two separate windows. Often, when taking notes, you have to juggle between the web browser (to open attachments externally) and the Brain. With this setup, you could stay entirely within Brain and continue taking notes without switching context.
I could even imagine having the attachments section overlay or replace the Plex side panel, allowing full-length display of the attachment while taking notes—all within the same application.

I believe this would improve the workflow.

  3. Add the ability to manually sort thoughts under a parent.
Currently can use hidden numbering, however this is hard to maintain if the sorting needs to be adjusted, especially changing number in the middle of the sort.

  4. To the dev team:

All the bundled fonts are for English. So  this is not friendly for the Chinese content .

Can you add  some opensource Chinese font as the bundled font

    Eg.    https://github.com/lxgw/LxgwWenKai/tree/main/fonts/TTF

The above font is An unprofessional open-source Chinese font.

Or can you  add the function to import the custom font, then use the uploaded font for the content in Note panel?

    Thanks a lot.

  6. (1) HIDE the admin features from public (logged out) view. Public readers of a shared brain do not need access to these features, and they only add to the confusion of an already unusual interface.
    * To-Do List
    * Reports

    (2) Move the Home icon to the far left of the toolbar (between the name of the brain and the thought type icon). This is where most users are going to look when they want to navigate back home.

    (3) Move the Pins icon back to its previous location, immediately to the right of the tags icon. From a design…

  8. I love the copy local / web thought URL. However, I would like to extend the capability in this direction a bit further.

I would like to be able to connect thoughts between two or more brains so that they remain in sync with the following functionality:

    • Sync this thought with another brain bi-directionally (latest version sync whichever thought holds last edited version or content)
    • Sync this thought with another brain uni-directionally (the identical thought in the other brain always acts as a backup)
      • For backup mode, define a number of copies of changed content within the thought
    • Be able…

  10. I would like to be able to tell sync status just by looking at the Cloud icon. I have attached a visual of one possible solution.

This would be useful in several situations:

    • My Brain is having a sync problem, but I don't realize it until days later. This is because I have to click on the little triangle to see the sync status, but there is nothing to prompt me to do that if I assume sync is automatically happening like it usually does.

    • I'm stepping away from my desk, and want to make sure my latest…

  11. Able to copy and then paste a color style format that has been implemented on to text and its background.

I often highlight certain phrases with a specific color, like a highlighter.

I would like to be able to copy the font color and font background color format, then paste it to other text.

Ideally, the text formatting should also be saved as a preference that can be implemented on any text.

  13. There are times when TheBrain is working on a task and its unclear if its working, or not, or if its crashed/stuck (see other feedback I sent). Would be nice to have an indicator that lets the user know TheBrain is active.

  14. I Started a new brain of my hard drive data. I create a thought, then drag & drop the contents of a directory from my computer into the thought. TheBrain crashes multiple times an hour as I do this. Seems to be pretty basic functionality, shouldn't be so buggy.

  15. I really love the "wander"-function. And I think TB was also leading the field here, in terms of identifying the critical role of serendipity and re-surfacing, which all other PKMs normall identify very late in their product-cycles (if at all).

This is why I always wished this function would have some more depth, fingrain, and discriminatory abilities – for a somehow 'steered/guided serendipity'.

    What I would hope for:
    • wandering only certain sub-branches of the brain
    • specify criteria for wandering (tags, categories, (fuzzy) search-strings…

    Thx for considering!

  16. The current to-do list is highly underestimated, in my opinion. It should even be renamed or given a kind of “older brother” called a topic or highlight list (or something similar).
I mainly use the to-do list to “highlight” important sentences/short paragraphs within a (longer) note, and I even use different colors so you can immediately see what the thought is about. If we were able to display only those thoughts that are the result of a search, the to-do list window would become even more powerful. At the moment, ALL “ToDo entries” are displayed, which in my case already…

  17. Sometimes you have thoughts that have some formal longer name, like there are companies named "International Consolidated Airlines Group SA" in real life. But when you refer to it in your notes with a shorter name, the reference won't be recognized.

Now, you don't want to fully write out this name each time, but you also don't want to manually create a link each time you write shorter version like "ICAG SA", not only would that be a work-around, often you actually don't want to create a clickable link at all and just leave it with a dotted underline, but…

  18. Frequently, when scrolling through notes on the iOS app, an unintended tap is registered, causing the application to enter edit mode.

I would appreciate the addition of a setting that allows users to disable tap-to-edit functionality, so that entering Edit mode requires using the Pencil button.

  19. I save many PDFs as child thoughts under a parent that describes the area of research those pdfs are relevant to. It would be useful for AI note generation to be able to use the contents of the PDFs. In this way a thought that contains a PDF could have a summary of the PDF as a note and I wouldn't have to open the PDF and read it entirely to know what it contains. Similarly, the parent though could contain a summary of the PDFs contained in its child thoughts. While I have focussed here on PDFs, this could…

  20. For beginners, TheBrain could become easier to use with a more guided onboarding experience and simplified default settings. A step-by-step tutorial that demonstrates creating, linking, and organizing thoughts would help new users quickly understand the basics. Pre-made templates for common use cases—like project planning, personal knowledge management, or journaling—would reduce the learning curve. Clearer visual cues, such as icons or color-coded categories, could make navigation more intuitive. Contextual tips and an integrated help assistant would provide guidance without overwhelming users. Overall, combining simplicity with gradual exposure to advanced features would make TheBrain more beginner-friendly while retaining its depth.
