  2. There are times when TheBrain is working on a task and its unclear if its working, or not, or if its crashed/stuck (see other feedback I sent). Would be nice to have an indicator that lets the user know TheBrain is active.

  3. I Started a new brain of my hard drive data. I create a thought, then drag & drop the contents of a directory from my computer into the thought. TheBrain crashes multiple times an hour as I do this. Seems to be pretty basic functionality, shouldn't be so buggy.

  4. I really love the "wander"-function. And I think TB was also leading the field here, in terms of identifying the critical role of serendipity and re-surfacing, which all other PKMs normall identify very late in their product-cycles (if at all).

This is why I always wished this function would have some more depth, fingrain, and discriminatory abilities – for a somehow 'steered/guided serendipity'.

    What I would hope for:
    • wandering only certain sub-branches of the brain
    • specify criteria for wandering (tags, categories, (fuzzy) search-strings…

    Thx for considering!

  5. For example, the expanded view in version 8 allowed saving and loading of a user-configurable set of thoughts set at particular locations.

  6. The current to-do list is highly underestimated, in my opinion. It should even be renamed or given a kind of “older brother” called a topic or highlight list (or something similar).
I mainly use the to-do list to “highlight” important sentences/short paragraphs within a (longer) note, and I even use different colors so you can immediately see what the thought is about. If we were able to display only those thoughts that are the result of a search, the to-do list window would become even more powerful. At the moment, ALL “ToDo entries” are displayed, which in my case already…

  7. Frequently, when scrolling through notes on the iOS app, an unintended tap is registered, causing the application to enter edit mode.

I would appreciate the addition of a setting that allows users to disable tap-to-edit functionality, so that entering Edit mode requires using the Pencil button.

  8. For beginners, TheBrain could become easier to use with a more guided onboarding experience and simplified default settings. A step-by-step tutorial that demonstrates creating, linking, and organizing thoughts would help new users quickly understand the basics. Pre-made templates for common use cases—like project planning, personal knowledge management, or journaling—would reduce the learning curve. Clearer visual cues, such as icons or color-coded categories, could make navigation more intuitive. Contextual tips and an integrated help assistant would provide guidance without overwhelming users. Overall, combining simplicity with gradual exposure to advanced features would make TheBrain more beginner-friendly while retaining its depth.

  10. Add the ability to sort Thoughts by Note word count (the number of words in a Note associated to a Thought). This way we can immediately tell, among a large number of Thoughts, which have notes with more or less content, thereby determining the importance of the Thought/Note.

  11. I'd like to suggest another level of permission for Team Brain, which I'm considering for a client as an organizational learning tool.

I don't want anybody to be able to change everything, either intentionally or accidentally.

But I want everyone to be able to contribute.

Would a drafter / commenter permission be possible? Where a user could add a thought, but not delete other thoughts? Writer / Administers could edit and add the though.

  12. Please enhance the notes editor to allow the creation and editing of graphical notes, such as handwritten text or sketches using a stylus.

It would be fantastic to implement functionality similar to tools like Nebo or OneNote, which enable seamless integration of handwritten notes and drawings. This would significantly enhance the usability and versatility of TheBrain, especially for users who prefer working visually or using a pen (e.g., Wacom Pencil) on tablets.

Thank you for considering this suggestion!

  13. I make extensive use of jump thoughts, as they are also a wonderful way to display the (previously selected) elements of the current thought to which they are attached. And since there is a keyboard shortcut for creating such a jump thought, it is a fairly straightforward way to add them, but only as long as the jump thought does not already exist somewhere in the Brain. Then the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-K no longer works and no jump thought is created. And if I explicitly click on “+ Create jump”, a new thought with the same name will be created,…

  14. At least I guess that it can only be a bug:
I make extensive use of jump thoughts, as they are also a wonderful way to display all the topics of a thought to which they are attached - sort of a keyword index/overview for a given thought.

In order to create one, I use the corresonding keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-K). Pretty straightforward - but only if the thought to be created does not already exist (somewhere in the brain). Because when you then select the already existing thought from the selection window, a link is created but NOT the corresponding…

  15. Make the lines of a YouTube video's table of contents “clickable/usable”
    Just as an example:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTSRx78Aac8
When you click on this link, you will see a YouTube video – like millions of others. Then click on “More” and you will (hopefully) see a few lines that represent the content of the video (like a table of contents) and the corresponding time code at the beginning of each line.
This makes it easy to jump to a specific point in a longer video.
I would be delighted if theBrain would one day retain these links when I insert text like this…

  16. Note: This is a general idea, I'm not suggesting the features should work exactly like how I laid out, but more what end result / function should be strived for (ie. chronologically organizing information in a more selective way)

    To provide context:
I'm interested in mapping connections / relationships between individuals. It's very important to be able to do this, as understanding relationships between individuals is critical for analysing potential conflicts of interest, including historically.

The individuals are the bedrock "child thoughts" of my brain.

Their parent thoughts will be things which bundle people together such as organisations, movements, maybe…

  17. I would like to be able to tell sync status just by looking at the Cloud icon. I have attached a visual of one possible solution.

This would be useful in several situations:

    • My Brain is having a sync problem, but I don't realize it until days later. This is because I have to click on the little triangle to see the sync status, but there is nothing to prompt me to do that if I assume sync is automatically happening like it usually does.

    • I'm stepping away from my desk, and want to make sure my latest…

  18. It would be helpful to be able to encrypt individual thoughts. This should include the granular choice of encrypting:

    • Thought name (I know, that might be weird from a usability perspective)
    • Notes
    • URL Links
    • Attachments

    Well, I guess basically everything.

  19. When items in a Table of Contents wrap to two or more lines, it can be difficult to distinguish between the different items in the list.

I suggest adding formatting that makes it easier to see where each new item begins. I've attached a few possibilities.

  20. While in the note editor on desktop and iPad, allow us to use a selective filter that can select OR filter text with certain attributes such as:

    • All text in the note that has any background color
    • or a certain background color or set of background colors
    • optionally bolded, or italicized or a certain heading level or other style attribute

Once this has been filtered, allow us to create a thought attached to the current thought (child, parent or jump) with the filtered text as the new thought's note including the source text's style attributes intact. The filtered text can…
