2. Encryption and password management

   Most of us have tones of passwords. I would love to store them in PB but
   don't because of the security risk that would pose. I would love it if
   there was an encrypted thought type. you identify the though as encrypted
   and the contents (including notes) get protected. Without the master
   password, you can see there is a thought there but the contents would be
   hidden.

3. set a different dictionary language per each Notes windows

5. Lower the price-point for academic use

   Ultimately, I think TheBrain is overpriced for student-use... The TeamBrain isn't even out of beta-testing, and with the student discount it is priced at $240 a year for the team-based product, or the individual version is $240 up-front and $159 a year.

   I think you folks are missing an opportunity to build a following –a customer base. Many other companies seem to understand that if they can get people hooked on their products while learning in academia they can get them hooked for life.

   Medical school is extremely collaborative -at least mine is. It's not competitive like undergrad when people are fighting to get INTO medical school. We realize we need to be working together to make life a little easier for all of us. We are drinking information from a fire-hose. It was 28.5 credit hours first semester, and ONLY 24 second semester. Our class literally uses GoogleDocs to prepare/collaborate on a study document for every single exam. We have 240 students in our class. At any point prior to an exam up to 50 people are concurrently viewing/editing the study guide, and it is much more complete and accurate than anything one person or a small group of students could have put together.

   I would love the opportunity to work with your company in an educational proof-of-concept/marketing capacity to show how students can collaborate using TheBrain to learn more effectively and become better students who are more prepared to be better professionals during their careers. I can’t get 240 people on board at the $240 a year price-point with only 30 days to convince them TheBrain’s power.

   For students the power is in the ability to explore "TheBrain" like you are exploring your mind. Ultimately, you end up using it like flash-cards while you are exploring. You visualize what you will see when you click on the drug, Miconozole. Then you click on it to see if you were right. It helps you see relationships among topics. For instance, many microbes can get into the CSF. You could find them all by flipping pages... Or in TheBrain, if you click on CSF on any of them it brings CSF to the forefront and everything that gets into CSF around it. Our professors have been teaching this stuff for 20+ years. They get all the relationships and have them mapped out in their minds... We are trying to learn in 2-D. They are asking 3-dimensional questions on exams... You gotta learn in 2-D then page-flip until you tie everything together in 3D...

   As far as I can tell, all other mindmap apps for the iPad, etc. are not mindmaps, they are static, one directional -hierarchical flowcharts or trees marketed as "mindmaps". The true "mindmap" (I think anyway) is TheBrain (probably because I got spoiled by it long ago) because it is dynamic, and a giant web of thoughts in a ball (3 dimensional, not two dimensional).

   I swear one of these days you will be wearing virtual reality goggles and reaching up in the air to grab Miconozole, and when you do you will see everything it treats in the air all around you (in the forefront), and in a 3 dimensional view you will see everything attached to these things Miconozole treats (faded in the background, behind each of them). You will be able to point at one of these things and bend your finger to bring it to the forefront (or grab one of the things Miconozole treats with a clasping motion --or something that catches your eye two levels deep by bending your middle finger). The possibilities are incredible. This will be the company to make it happen if they can hang around long enough for technology to catch up with what they have created. I've been thinking that for 10 years... I don't think any other company "gets it".

6. Thought type panel (like the tags panel) - Vote for using Though types more actively

   I like the idea of using Thought types much more actively - to indicate the status my thought (I like that the icon changing visually to) - but that means changing them a lot all the time (like tags - but tags do not effect though icons) - That would mean only 1 mouse click instead of 3mouse clicks everytime I would change though type.

8. Prioritized View

   There are a number of older forum entries and more recent feature suggestions regarding thought and link visualization/visibility as a function of priority/importance/relevance/value. Some have suggested improved visualization (bigger size, bolder color thoughts) by use, by connectivity, or by customized scales. TheBrain should implement all of these, especially customized scales, allowing the user to determine various levels of priority for various goals (e.g. a 1-7 scale of “priority for daily health” or “priority for ________ research project,” or whatever priority scale you want). With scales, visualization could be more subtle than filter on/off (show/hide). Users could decide in each moment whether they want to cut to the chase (only direct their gaze at bigger, bolder, higher priority thoughts (for a certain goal) in the plex) or explore more (look at the lower priority thoughts in the plex) to get more perspective. Users could of course re-prioritize older thoughts.

   Meanwhile, users should also be able to scale the “breadth” and “depth” of the plex display while maintaining mobility within the Brain. TheBrain’s current “Normal” view shows thoughts that are closely linked to (1 or 2 links from) the active thought. For a broader perspective, the Expanded View is helpful. However, in the Expanded View, users must always be expanding and contracting thoughts based on their current broader focus (making it hard to traverse the larger Brain with a view that’s large, but still negotiable). This task is a drain on users’ working memory. The program could do this for users in a kind of intermediate plex view, more broad than Normal View, but more mobile than Expanded View: perhaps called “Prioritized View.” In PV, thoughts/links connected to the “main” thought (in it’s 1st “orbit,” we could say) would be visualized in terms of relative priority/importance (on a scale of the type discussed above), the most important being biggest, boldest, and closest to the active thought, others being smaller, less bold, and farther away. Thoughts that are two links away from the main thought (i.e. in its 2nd orbit) would follow the same scaled visualization criteria (most important being closest and easiest to see, etc.) except that their priority/importance would be lowered by being two links away from the active thought rather than one.1 This process could be repeated for thoughts that are 3, 4, 5... links away (in the 3rd, 4th, 5th... orbits), each successive orbit having a more negative priority modifier. Users could alter the “Depth” of their Prioritized View (PV) on a scale that changes this priority modifier. (A PV with a high value on the Depth scale would link to more thoughts that are further away – in higher orbits.) They could also alter the amount of thoughts at each orbit (and thus of each size/boldness/relative distance) with a “Breadth” scale. At higher Breadth values, more thoughts/links at each orbit would be more visible. As a user decreased the Breadth value, thoughts and links at every orbit would become less visible (the least visible disappearing altogether), but Depth could simultaneously be maintained. Also, links to high priority thoughts through low priority thoughts could be visible while the low priority intermediary is invisible.

   1Some thoughts in higher orbitals could be higher overall priority (bigger, bolder, closer to the main thought) than those in the 1st orbital, even though they’re more links away from the main thought.

   Reasons for my proposal of a Prioritized View upgrade to The Brain: In my neuroscience research, my productivity depends a good deal on how smoothly I can shift gears between levels of abstraction (e.g. one moment studying the details of a particular experimental paradigm, the next moment trying to see how those details fit with broad anatomical and functional brain systems). It seems to me that creative thinking in general (not just for my work) depends highly on thinkers’ abilities to move flexibly not only between material subjects and their components, but also between levels of abstraction – like zooming in and out of a picture rather than just panning. The Prioritized View upgrade would allow this without turning TheBrain into a Zoomable User Interface, which I’m guessing would require way more software development. And I don’t think infinite zooming is necessary for this kind of thing.

   More support for the Prioritized View upgrade: It’s now an accepted neuroscientific fact that humans have very limited working memory capacity (something like 7 + 2 “thoughts” at any given time); all TheBrain users have experienced this – which is why we turned to the software in the first place. (It’s great at helping us remember and store not only individual thoughts in our working memories, but also the relevant links between these thoughts.) The next step, however, is for the software to help us direct our attention efficiently to the old thoughts that are most relevant to our current goal (specific research, specific project planning, more general GTD, or whatever) while we spend our limited working memory on more important matters: e.g. (1) finding and integrating new thoughts related to this goal, (2) re-prioritizing old thoughts related to this goal, or, perhaps most importantly, (3) imagining and abstracting deductively from old thoughts to generate new thoughts and (higher-order) concepts related to this goal. Imagining and abstracting would be greatly facilitated by a wider, mobile, prioritized view, especially if it made visible potentially important connections through low priority intermediaries (helping users spend more time considering important connections that they probably wouldn’t without a prioritized view).

   Please contact me if you’re interested in implementing or improving upon my ideas here. I have a strong personal interest in using a prioritized view (of some kind) and making it available to others who have similar needs. (And I imagine many do.) This is simply too good an opportunity to pass up :-)

9. Add generic CalDav Calendar syncing

   I corporate environments there are many other calendar server systems we are forced to use, and CalDav is well supported standard for talking between clients and servers. Being able to use TheBrain calendar as the interface for managing those calendars would be a big plus.

    I use personalbrain for collect and manage all my files.

11. Export reports to .doc or .odf format

    What's preventing me from purchasing or using PersonalBrain is that I can't export reports into a .doc or .odf format. Would be great to see that support added.

12. Microsoft Outlook on Mac and Personal Brain

    Microsoft will be releasing shortly a new version fo Office for the Mac. It will now use Outlook or least a compatible version instead of Entourage.

13. Enable Thought and Link tags in SiteBrain

    If the purpose of SiteBrain is sharing the structure of one's Brain that can be intuitively navigated, it is reasonable to enable tags for links and tags/icons for thoughts. As Brains grow and become more complex, these features make life much easier for the users but are indispensable for those using SiteBrains. Specifically, I'm thinking of a sharing some complex ideas via SiteBrain on the Internet with students who do not need to be familiar with PersonalBrain itself.

14. HTML export - needs links rather than embedding files

    When you do an export to either sitebrain html or simple html, the files that are linked to end up being part of the generated web site, rather than links. This is a problem because (a) the exported site can be unnecessarily large (potentially GB or tens of GB), and (b) you might actually want the site to link to objects (such as documents) rather than maintain copies (which can become out of date, etc.). There should at least be an option to generate pages that include links rather than making copies of objects that are linked to.

    It would be useful to associate the Thought with:

17. Operating System Layer

    I envision using the PBC as the total desktop making it fully interactive with browsers and applications. It will be the optimal interface for all computing. In addition the windows for notes and the like should open based on were you click on the thought or hover(hot spots). right next to the thought or allow the user to drag the boses where they should open.

18. Add geolocalization to toughts (create, search, organize, display ...)

    The main idea is simple : attach localization data to thoughts.
    To organize thoughts (the way tags do it) but by localization, for example in a map ! you can organize your holidays pictures and retrieve all related thoughts by selecting a specific zone of the map. (kind of GPS coordinates tags')

    We can imagine at new thought creation, you can select type, tag and localization,
    We can imagine to search thoughts via localization (Country, City, Zipcode, ...),
    We can imagine a new "location canvas" where main thoughts can be displayed by localization on a map,
    We can imagine to automatically locate a new thought (optionaly) created on a ipad/iphone/smartphone which provides localization option,
    We can imagine doing statistical reports by localization (i.e. "Well, it seems i'm more inspired in London that in New York"),
    We can imagine simply use a google map widget to develop all of that easily, quickly and powerfully,

    ... and i'm sure even more ! Come on !

19. In Notes: Separate color for each URL; brain://, http://, etc

    Purpose: To more readily determine the consequence of clicking a link.

    Example: brain:// will open a new thought in the PersonalBrain plex in ~1 second.  http:// will open a new internet browser tab and connect to the site after much longer than 1 second. This can interrupt workflow and concentration.

    At some times I know I only want to follow a link if it will lead me to a PersonalBrain thought.  At other times, I know I want to visit a site.  Setting a different font color or type would more readily help me determine what result I want.

    Initially, it would be adequate to determine between internal links (local brain://) and external links (file://, http://, ftp://, gopher://, etc). And if (when) brain:// will allow opening a new Brain db, it would be important to differentiate between those too.

    I am not sure on all the "auto-link" URLs which are supported, but for those that are something like the following could suffice:

    Options --> Preferences --> Colors
    --> Links, All default
    --> Links, All highlighted [not working? see bug linked below *]
    --> Links, http
    --> Links, ftp
    --> Links, file
    --> Links, current brain

    The "All default" would be the color displayed if one of the specific link types was not specifically set.

    For links that are not automatically linked (ie. magnet:) when creating a link (Format --> Insert link, or Ctrl+K) it would be nice to change the color of the link from that properties box at the very least to enhance workflow.

    Purpose: To more readily determine the consequence of clicking a link.

    Example: brain:// will open a new thought in the PersonalBrain plex in ~1 second.  http:// will open a new internet browser tab and connect to the site after much longer than 1 second. This can interrupt workflow and concentration.

    At some times I know I only want to follow a link if it will lead me to a PersonalBrain thought.  At other times, I know I want to visit a site.  Setting a different font color or type would more readily help me determine what result I want.

20. Send URL from a browser to your PB

    From a browser, if you like a page URL you can send it to your PB active thought or to a specified thought (same functionality you have for the Win Explorer right click "send to".
    This idea is also similar or set/subset of " Have an 'inject' into brain capabilty" and "Email or text a Thought or Note into my Brain"
