layer

Would adding extra dimensions provide the same result as 'layers'? Do the words layer and axis really mean the same thing in this context. It would be nice to be able to have a selective display by filtering out certain things or only including certain things. The 'tags' that are available in PB could be used for this purpose.

TB faces difficulties when organizing different levels of information: For example, I use different brains, which I find cumbersome when dealing with the part that is common to several of them. In an example with 3 brains, I have (1) my encyclopedic brain, where I have more than 20,000 thoughts and that will grow endlessly; (2) My professional brain where there is all the specifics for my current job; (3) An administrative brain where I put all the banking, shopping, health, etc issues and information.
The problem is that these 3 brains should be connected in a tight manner while remaining 3 separate layers of information. For example,
specific information about my interlocutors in my professional brain should be linked to the sector in my encyclopedic brain (because there the sector will be connected to the broader context).
My investments in my Admin brain should be linked to the economic sectors in the encyclopedic brain, where I monitor the economic situation.
The latest version of PB allows thought URLs which makes possible links between different brains, but I don't find it convenient enough for the systematic linking of thoughts between different level of information. One suggestion would be to use layers, just like an imaging software like Photoshop uses layers. The encyclopedic brain would be the background brain, and the two other brains would be layers rather than separate brains. Just like Photoshop layers, you could have layers displayed or not over the background.
You could work on a specific layer, adding and deleting thoughts without affecting the other layers.
You could delete and/or export a layer out of the brain. Think for example when you are changing job, you remove the layer from the previous job and create a new layer for the new job.
You could share your brain but exclude one layer, for example your Admin layer with personal information. This latter possibility is much more efficient than identifying individual thoughts as private one by one.
You could have layers to monitor events or information for a period of time, events that you may not want to include right away in your encyclopedic background since you are not yet sure of their significance. For example, adding a 2012 layer for adding anything that attract your attention during the year, but that you might want to review at the end of the year and clean up.
You could have one layer that you share with colleagues, while keeping the background private

Some workaround would be some link-type filter (as soon as it would be implemented in PB7)

Important would be to switch layer on and off and to build links between the layers (even multiple layers, if some thoughts are synchronous, to avoid the administration overhead).
(Even there exists 12 different views on the same world in the philosophy).
One Expample: The solastic layer (presentation of some context in the universities of today) and the personal layer (the personal interpretation, how is the best way to see and structure this context). -

Any object thought and connections can be only in one more layer (= world models). Via checkbox you can define, to which layer an object belongs. Connections can be in the same (see above) or between layers. You can copy one layer in a new one including all objects and layerinterpending links. You can select a group of objects and define them to belong or belong not to the layer xy.
In the left side on the window you can see 10 (or 20 layer, which you can define in the customizing) and if there are more than these are scrollable. This layer-pushdown-buttons you can press (activate one or more) - the result is to see one world of thinking or the interpendence of these.See also New Poper Model watch and sky lover...
Praxis: Layer 0 of the theorie xy. Layer 1 synonyms.
Praxis: Layer 0 in the language xy. Layer 1 in the language 2.
Praxis: Layer 1 the native mindmapping of the theme T1. Layer 0 same theme T1 but in the MDL-formulation (abstraction via the minimal description length = compressed knowlege).I would be keen to this this!
