  2. Add options to right click menu (on a thought) to copy its Thought type or its tags for pasting into another thought (to add or replace in the case of tag(s))
Change the Thought type selection mechanism on the right click menu so that a combo box for thought type selection opens instead of a hard to use submenu.

  3. See: http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/6009/20081231035600ym4.png

The tags on "distant thoughts" make them almost unreadable. It would be nice if there was an option in Preference to "Hide tags for distant thoughts".

  6. I mean this will be useful for overview of thought information:

    • A keyboard shortcut for showing label for the active thought (Alt-L)
    • A keyboard shortcut for showing label for thought under the green marker ring (Alt-Ctrl-L)
    • A keyboard shortcut for showing labels for all thoughts in plex, including history (Alt-Shift-L)

Much faster that using the mouse.

  7. Currently linking an external program with a Thought doesn't provide any chance of transferring parameters to that program.

The only exception is linking to a browser, i.e., linking to an URL, which supports URL. A way to work through this is to set up a local web server and code a web page to call programs with parameters(passed via URL parameter).

  8. In Personal Brain, the first image files attached to a Thought will be displayed as Thought Icon, currently it does not support the display of some vector image formats like wmf and eps. I am using wmf format to store mathematical formulas.
Under current constraints, the only way for me is to convert my formula file from wmf to jpg format every time I modify my formula.
It will be very convenient if Personal Brain can provide such supports.

  9. Clicking the little tag legend on a thought in the Plex activates the corresponding Tag Thought. -- very convenient for getting to all like-tagged thoughts.

  10. Right clicking and selecting a tag provides a menu sub-divided by the tag names.

Right clicking and selecting a thought type provides a sub-divided menu with lower case alpha characters.

Right clicking on a selection, the Add Tag and Set Selection Thought Type menus are not sub-divided.

I think it would polish the PB product and make it look a little more professional if there was better consistency in these context menus.

  13. Usually when I download or save a file from softwares into a Thought's folder (i.e. to link to that thought), I rename the file to the Thought's name (As long as there are no illegal characters inside as a filename). In this way, the file is searchable by its related Thought's name outside PersonalBrain.
So all theBrain guys need to do is add a context menuitem to a Thought's context menu.

There could be many tricks (or patterns) to use PersonalBrain in a efficient way, within the newest features PersonalBrain provides. We can discover the patterns and make them more…

  14. Now when pasting outline, Personal Brain will prompt for a list of action to take when there has been already some thought with the same name. This is very useful when creating inter-linked map. Then why not make this available to import?
Another issue when people import or paste is the frequent refresh of Plex. That's not necessary and consumes CPU, which may make the import or paste process much slower.

  15. Numerical tallies displayed on the (active?) thought showing how many descendants have a particular tag set. Great for finding to-dos, reviewing status on projects, etc

  16. Particularly if a new thought is activated anyway, please offer a Preference to indicate that the new Thought has been created without the pulsing, tedious, highly distracting animation.

  17. In PB v3.x I could resize a docked window to about ~90% of the opposite side. Now, PB v5.x (maybe even PB 4?) does not allow me to resize a docked window. I would prefer to have the option of resizing docked windows.

  18. There should be a way to turn on/off the display of the comma trick names in expanded and outline view, so that only the last name part is shown.

  19. When dealing with thoughts that have parents with many children (possibly even many parents), it gets hard in normal view to find the correct link from that thought to the parent (to unlink them). It would be much easier if the parent had an item in its context-menu saying "Unlink from {child_thought}".
Or maybe even add an "Unlink"-menu to every thought which, when opened, shows all parent/child/jump-thoughts.

And while we're at it, there should be keystroke for that, too :)

  20. It's a needless distraction. I tend to edit notes on several children of a parent, while keeping them all in view. Mouse-over editing of children works in normal view until the user moves the mouse cursor over the note. Expanded view is better for the task, because it enables the user to to activate a thought without recentering around it.

But I'd like a "quiet" toggle...there's no reason to spring the view if it's only going to retract right to where it was. Sometimes a long Thought title is truncated until activated, at which point it covers its neighbor, even …
